Monaco goalkeeper Thomas Nbel has been speaking about his time with Bayern Munich and Germany team-mate Manuel Neuer.

Alexander Nübel, a Bayern Munich loanee, spoke with Get French Football News journalist Luke Entwistle about how Monaco’s goalkeeping coach Frederic de Boever and Manuel Neuer helped shape his career.
Nübel began by swarming around De Boever: “He’s a fantastic goalkeeper coach,” Nübel said. “He gives me a lot of advice and talks about my game: how to keep the ball, what positions I should play, and when I should be more offensive or defensive.”
The purpose of Nübel’s loan to Monaco was to help him further develop his obvious potential, and having a good coach to work with is essential in this regard. But it certainly helps to work with arguably the best goalkeeper in history.
“I learned a lot about his general game and his connections with the guys in front of him,” Nübel says of Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer.
He’s one of the best goalkeepers of all time.”
There have been numerous media reports about Nübel having a strained relationship with Manuel Neuer as a result of the former struggling to take Neuer’s starting goalkeeper spot at Bayern Munich. However, Nübel continued to praise his compatriot and how he has revolutionized the way goalkeepers play the game.
“He completely altered [our perception of goalkeeping. He is constantly attempting to maintain possession… When you look at the top teams in Europe, you will notice that they all have goalkeepers who play well with their feet… “As goalkeepers, we played a lot of possession games with the team at Bayern, and you saw [barely] any difference between him and the outfield players during those games,” Nübel said.
Nübel’s loan with Monaco expires in 2023, and his deal with Bayern Munich expires in 2025. With Neuer still at Bayern until at least 2024, it will be interesting to see where Nübel’s career takes him.
